Where do you get your inspiration?
Elise:
I was on the hunt for the perfect pre-owned Chanel handbag that lasted for months and I found myself daydreaming about a website where I could swap the other purses in my collection for a Chanel bag. And that’s how SNOBSWAP got set in motion.

Emily: Elise told me about the concept of SNOBSWAP and I immediately signed on. The idea of an online marketplace to sell, swap or buy luxury designers for less is every woman’s dream come true. Most of our friends faced the same dilemma, a closet full of clothes and bags and nothing to wear.

When and how did your company come to life?
We debuted SNOBSWAP in beta to friends and family in 2011 and it has gone viral. We have thousands of members and fans so we thought it was time to celebrate and introduce SNOBSWAP to the larger public.

What do you sell?
SNOBSWAP is an online community for high-end consignment swapping, selling, and purchases of luxe labels for women, men and children.  We have some amazing designers listed like Chanel, Christian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo, Christian Dior, Missoni, Alexander Wang, Theory, Rebecca Minkoff, and more.

What’s your ultimate dream for your company?
We’d love to be the go-to online platform for designer swapping, shopping, and selling. Our goal is to share the thrill of consignment shopping and swapping with all fashionistas looking for that bargain buzz.  We are constantly thinking of new ways to tweak SNOBSWAP because we hope to provide the most fantastic user experience, so stay tuned for more fun improvements!

What do you think of the DC Metropolitan Area style?
The DC fashion scene exploding!  We have a blog, The Stylist, that features a weekly Street Style post in which we interview stylish Washingtonians and other fashionistas from other cities about their style. We love hearing about more new designers emerging from the District as well!  There’s a pool of talent here that is untapped.

Favorite neighborhood/town for shopping:
We love planning “sister day” which is when we hit consignment stores in DC, San Francisco, or whatever city we are in.  We especially love visiting TARI in Georgetown.  We also enjoy shopping the unique boutiques in the Logan Circle/16th Street area and in Chevy Chase DC where you can find high-end and discount stores.

Interview conducted by Kristine Thomas, founder and owner of DewdropDC. Check out the blog here.
